Technology Readiness Levels
A metric that may help to describe the progression of technologies is its technology readiness level (TRL).
Several groups have adopted the TRL system for use regarding biomedical technologies, including the
Department of Health and Human Services
. A generalized table of respective TRLs is attached below and is provided as a general
guideline for tracking projects. The NCAI/REACH programs expect that the majority of technology supports will be
between TRLs 3 and 5.
